History & Location

Our attractive town was named in 1845 after a grove of poplar trees. A portion of those trees waned allowing the community to begin development. The Village’s beautiful and serene recreation paths and parks, modern housing developments, business community, and airport are a vital part to our hometown.

Our Village is located beside the Long Prairie Trail and surrounded by a vibrant farming community at the intersections along IL-76 and IL-173. This location allows our community to take full advantage of both economic development and convenient access to I-90, while maintaining a peaceful and growing community. The Village Board has worked diligently with surrounding taxing districts and economic development partners to create an Enterprise Zone at the corridor of IL-76 and IL-173 where business and entrepreneurs have access to economic opportunity and growth incentives.  Furthermore, our K-12 schools excel both academically and athletically adding additional pride to our community.
